Allons Enfants!

I know, my clothing today has nothing to do with the title and I´m the first to admit it. I actually tried – very hard – to ignore July 14th, 2017 to the best of my abilities.

I did not want to feel the void that the passing of the only French born relative I had in the Americas had recently left in me. We had always celebrated Bastille Day together. For most of the day, I succeeded at dismissing it. Until I couldn’t …

The celebration across the street is still in full swing, even as we speak. Living in a very particular part of town, it is happy and cheerful; peppered with the occasional shout … ¨Vive La France¨.

It does hurt. I no longer have her by my side singing ¨The Marsaillaise¨ today, but then again her values, her dignity and those of our beloved France continue to live on in my heart, in my mind and in my deepest HOPES. Spread them around:

It was a strange way to end the year for me, but I wouldn´t have expected anything less from it. How could I ?

The entire holidays became the backdrop to the unconditional love we lavished more than ever before, upon a – terminally ill – beloved family member.

Travel plans cancelled … willingly, happily. At least we are still together! N´est-ce pas?

2016 gifted me with one of the biggest growth spurts of my entire adult life. Absurdly painful at times, yes, but magnificently wiser than wise in its gifted realizations. It brought me an almost full on awakening that led me to recognize – through the mirror of others – some of the very issues that I still need to work on within myself.

Once past the initial bewilderment (who? me???!!), it actually became a truly purging, humbling, balancing, empowering and strengthening process, from which we (if any of you identifies) can re-emerge lighter and freshly energized before embarking on the clean slate journey of 2017. May we get another chance!

How about you? How did 2016 challenge you?

MAC users, take notice:

On a lighter note, the holidays left me with a technical solution to a problem I ´ve been experiencing since Fall 2015 when I upgraded to El Capitan OS X only to find that Firestorm was not running properly on it.

What I did at the time, in order to be able to continue taking high resolution snapshots for this blog, was to create a separate partition running Maverick with an earlier version of the Firestorm Viewer.

Aside from the fact that I needed to tediously change partitions between RL work and SL work, it was  great … until the recent release of the BENTO viewers

The solution was to upgrade the Nvidia Drivers on my MAC which is something I never dared do since it´s not provided through the regular Apple Channels and I was just afraid to mess my RL work partition and livelihood. I shied from doing it even though Firestorm did provide all the necessary information.

Luckily I finally dared and although it does not solve my problem 100% (my viewer is a little slow on Ultra but hey, who´s complaining? ) it has eliminated my constant crashing and allowed me to work.

In case you are experiencing the same issues, here are some links:

Crashing While Running Firestorm.  The Nvidia Drivers are located under CRASH for both EL CAPITAN and SIERRA. FYI, I´m still running EL CAPITAN.

After you download it  you have the choice of using either the Nvidia Web Drivers or the OS X Default Graphic Drivers at any given time after that through your System Preferences –> Nvidia Graphic Manager.

Bento Mesh Head

Which takes me back to BENTO  and the reason for the upgrade in the first place.  So yes! after the upgrade worked so well with the new drivers installed, I went ahead and got my first BENTO Mesh Head.

I chose the Lelutka Simone because they were generous enough to offer it to previous owners of the Simone Head at half the price. Talk about securing customer loyalty!

I decided to use it with my  shape but I am still tweaking it and changing it here and there. I found that the process was in a way much like drawing !!! At first the results of my tweaking lead to extremely naive depictions of the head, circa 2009. Sort of unnatural and dollish.

Eventually I managed to get the  shape somewhat more normal by trying to render the image after my own RL bone structure from all sides. From there I began experimenting with several skins other than the original GLAM Affair it came with.

The verdict

I love the head, I always did, but I´m still working on finding the right balance. Being able to achieve a more mature look is a must for me. I find it a bit of a challenge but I´m working on it and having fun.

I would say that my next posts will all have the look of complete shape/skin experimentation as I had not seen since the old days with the System Avi. Terrifying and exciting. I hope you can bear with me!

May you all be Blessed, Sustained and Contained throughout  2017!

Thank you for being so wonderful to me!

Much Love, Landa xox
